Foundation Programme – Full Time Course
Foundation programme focuses on developing language, communication, social & emotional skills along with functional literacy and numeracy. Students are encouraged to engage in psychological self-construction using interaction with their environments. The programme also aims at language development, interest in small objects, sensory refinement and social behaviour.
Through the integration of fine motor skills and art, the students learn to use the fine muscles of their arms and hands and develop strength in important muscles, to assist in becoming independent to button clothing and unzip bags. Visual communication is also an important element of our learning in class. We strive to integrate the students into the school by using their existing strengths to develop a programme in conjunction with parents, therapists and specialist staff that are appropriate for the individual’s needs.

Areas of Learning
Under the guidance of our experienced teachers, students will be involved in an enriching arts-based programme that introduces them to music, dance, drama and more.
This programme will help students gain more body awareness, learn new movements, and improve their balance, coordination, concentration, and memory.
We aim to bring students together to practise and perform while respecting each other, so they can share their skills, communicate with confidence, as well as discover their love for the arts.

Students engage with a variety of texts for learning and enjoyment. They listen to, read, view and interpret spoken, written and multimodal texts .
Students are provided with experiences that engage, support and extend their learning, including the use of pictorial representations or other marks to express and record their ideas.

The Mathematics curriculum focuses on equipping students with functional numeracy concepts like recognising numbers, concepts of measurement, time, money etc which will, in turn, help them to lead independent lives.
We help students to learn real-world math skills that will help them in real-life situations. Practical examples from their daily lives help them on a deeper, more intuitive level, helping them to turn abstract concepts into a concrete learning experience

We focus on enabling students to interact and play constructively with others and to establish friendships with peers. The curriculum provides the opportunity for students to begin establishing and naming the skills required to work in groups. Students learn to show an awareness of their feelings and needs of others.
They identify and describe personal interests, skills and achievements and reflect on how these might contribute to school or family life.
Students recognise the diversity of families and communities. They demonstrate ways to interact with and care for others. The curriculum focuses on enabling students to learn how to be socially perceptive. Students learn to guide their behaviour across a range of familiar situations. They learn to adhere to class practice, offer assistance, share, initiate activities and regulate emotional expression.

Students learn through movement by engaging in a variety of physical activities in a range of environments (indoor and outdoor).
They participate in simple games with support, to follow instructions and to remain on task.
Students are encouraged to develop and practice fundamental movement skills through active play and structured movement activities to improve competence and confidence in their movement ability.

The main aim of this programme is to prepare students for independent living outside the school environment.
Students will have the opportunity to be involved in pre-vocational work experience in areas such as domestic skills, living skills, office work and supported workplaces.

Students are introduced to common digital systems and patterns that exist. Students describe how information systems meet information, communication and recreation needs.
Through discussion with teachers, students learn to apply safe practices to protect themselves and others as they interact online for learning and communicating.
Across the band, students will have had the opportunity to create a range of digital solutions through guided play and integrated learning, such as using robotic toys to navigate a map or recording science data with software applications.
